Support Our Shopkeepers

Ian-Forber (2)I am concerned that once again, local businesses are being unfairly treated in difficult economic times.  Several local shopkeepers have received a letter from the Council advising that they are now going to have to fork out for displaying goods on the pavements and A-Boards outside their shops.    Our local greengrocer, Ian Forber is one of those affected.  He has displayed flowers and plants on Victoria Road for over 20 years and now the Council expect him to pay £75 for the licence.  A few years ago the Council tried to introduce charges by claiming it was a Health & Safety issue however that’s OK now, as long as you pay!  I shall be lobbying Council to consider the needs of the small businesses in New Brighton.

  1. It is always local small businesses are being unfairly treated by councils or by goverments..On the one hand a campaign for SAVE LOCAL BUSINESES ,on the other hand giving hard time to succesfull small local busineses.
I am not talking about fee,It is not about 75 pound fee it is about everyone is try to putting blame , pressure and more responsibility to small busineses.

  2. The Wirral Globe is doing its bit to support local businesses – see the Local Life section in this week’s edition.

    We’re all in this together….

  3. I don’t like the double standards. If A-Boards and pavements displays are a H&S hazard then they’re a hazard… Charging a fee isn’t going to make them safer! People should be encouraged to shop locally and all local business should be supported whenever possible. Thanks for your comments.

  4. Ian was there when I moved to Wallasey 19 years ago, thankfully he is still there. He lives local as well, small busineses owner are ordinary people as others..They are not multi millioners as some people thinks. They are not loaded as some of public of members think ,certainly they don’t have spare cash for false act inside or front of shop for trying to get compensation!
