Weekly Diary 15-21 March 2010

Posted in Council, Highway Maintenance, Rant on March 12, 2010 by suetaylor2008As predicted, the ‘cast iron guarantee’ that the Virginia Road planter would be removed this week wasn’t worth the paper it was written on. I received a call yesterday stating that it would now definitely be Monday. This is appalling and I don’t think they are capable of committing to anything. What a waste of tax payers money they are.
Pedestrian Crossing – Rake Lane
Posted in Council, Highway Maintenance, Local, Roads, Safety on March 12, 2010 by suetaylor2008
This morning I have emailed the Highways department to find out what is the reason for the hold up on the completion of the pedestrian crossing on Rake Lane. Work seems to have ground to a halt and all seems in place apart from the actual traffic light units on the columns. It’s been like that for over a fortnight now so time to ruffle some feathers. I wil keep you posted…
Broken Society
Posted in Children, Local, Rant on March 11, 2010 by suetaylor2008This morning a Dad got on the bus with two small girls, they were obviously on their way to school and they sat a few seats behind me. The dad had a face like thunder and the girls were visibly upset over something. ”Wait till I tell your teacher what a f*ckin’ little tw*t you’ve been…”, said the Dad. The little girl started to cry again. “If yer don’t stop cryin’ I’ll punch your f*ckin’ face off yer shoulders”, he said. Is it any wonder society has the problems it does with parents like this?
Good News for Local Traders
Posted in Community, Local on March 9, 2010 by suetaylor2008
At last night’s Sustainable Communities Overview & Scrutiny Committee we knocked back the Council’s proposals to impose charges on local shopkeepers for having pavement displays. On Victoria Road and Seabank Road we have numerous local shops who display goods outside their shops, Ian Forber’s greengrocer is a prime example. The Committee agreed that this was a great tradition and shouldn’t be penalised by the health & safety and doo-gooder brigade.

Carry On Colas
Posted in Council, Flytipping, Highway Maintenance, Local on March 7, 2010 by suetaylor2008
My colleague, Cllr Ian Lewis mentioned on his blog that he wondered if Colas were run by Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Barbara Windsor or Joan Sims? I am sure all four would deal with our highways issues in a more structured and professional manner! Last August, seven months ago, Colas were given the work sheets to have a planter removed from Virginia Road. The neglected planter which once contained shrubs had now become a dog toilet and a magnet for fly-tippers. The space it took up was also required to make a disabled parking bay for another resident. This fiasco of broken promises and being fobbed off with a catalogue of excuses has now come to a head and I have received an apology and a ‘cast iron guarantee’ that the planter will be removed this week. It’s just not good enough.

Tranmere Provide Help For Heroes

This Saturday’s match at Prenton Park against Southampton is supporting the Help For Heroes charity. Before kick off there’ll be two pipers from the 1st Battalion Irish Regiment then the players will come out on the pitch with a guard of honour. Before kick off there’ll be a minute long round of applause in appreciation for our armed forces. During the match there’ll be a ground collection and our local Mercian Regiment will be in attendance. I’ll be there! More details can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/y9sjtgn
